Kneeling In Between
And taking courage
The sunset-golden flowers
Folded their faces against the dark
Blue sky is robed in thunder
Raindrops striking arrow marks
And a single shaft of starlight
Is falling through
Falling through like dew
A lily in the rain
A lullaby sung again and again
Remembering another twilight
Silver olive trees
A broken man in agony
Kneeling in between
the darkness and the light
"We begin with Genesis, chapter one, verse four,” Hawks said quietly, “where we stare into the abyss before us, dividing light and darkness with the grace of God. Light begets light. Light begets life. ‘I am come,’ said Jesus Christ, ‘that they might have life and have it more abundantly.’” He swallowed. “It can be a terrible task, that of learning to divide the light from dark, for we agonize beneath the weight that someone we care for may be caught in the twilight of our indecision, our ignorance, our selfishness or our fear.” Finally he looked at me. “But when I recall that with the light of God comes the abundance of God, I take courage.” ~ Beth Brower, The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, Volume 7
(This song by Andy Gullahorn may be one of the most beautiful in the world, I think…)

Thank you for yet another piece on which to meditate. I especially love the line "Blue sky robed in thunder." It stopped me and gave me the most lovely pause in my morning. Thank you for the reminder to take courage, something I need almost every day. God bless.
Mmm, this is lovely. I'd no idea the Emma Lion books spoke of such things!---and now I'm very intrigued.
